Document and Collect Footwear/Tire Wear
16 hours (2 days)
Service Description
This class will provide attendees with the skills and techniques needed to properly document 2 dimensional and 3-dimensional footwear and tire track impressions. In addition to specialized photography, attendees will be exposed to gel lifting of impressions, electrostatic dust lifting and dental stone casting of 3 dimensional impressions. This is a hands-on class where attendees will be challenged to obtain both 2D and 3D impressions using multiple techniques. In addition to collecting the evidence, attendees will also learn ways to obtain outstanding usable elimination standards that allow an examiner to examine submitted evidence and compare it to the standards with little issue. Students are strongly encouraged to bring with them the photography equipment they would generally use in the field, to include cameras, lenses, shutter release cables, scales, a tripod, and a TTL flash cord. Black powder and WD 40 will also be used during the class. This class is approved through the I. A. I. for 16 hours for crime scene, and 14 hours for footwear.
